Please note, I’m in no way affiliated with Ninja, and I’ve got no professional ties to the company. I’m simply a keen ice cream maker who loves trying out new gadgets and methods of creating my own frozen treats at home. All views here are my own, as a user of the machine!
Why You Should Try This Ninja Creami Chocolate Ice Cream
Because everyone loves chocolate ice cream, right?!
The cocoa powder adds a wonderfully rich depth of flavor, and I’ve kept the ingredients as simple and natural as possible. There are no artificial sweeteners, no pudding mixes, and no cooking or eggs required. The taste reminds me of a cup of cocoa, and it’s such a wonderfully indulgent treat!
This classic recipe is such a good one to have in your repertoire, and it’s the ideal base for all kinds of different mix-ins. Spin in some chocolate chunks for a double chocolate chip ice cream, add mini marshmallows for homemade rocky road, or get creative and add crushed pretzels, chopped nuts, or caramel sauce.

Heavy cream: I use this is a base for so many of my Ninja Creami recipes, and it’s the key to the creamiest, most indulgent texture that’ll rival any store-bought ice cream! I always have a carton or two in my fridge, and it’s a real staple if you want to try out different ice cream recipes to find your favorite.
Whole milk: Choose whole for maximum creaminess.
Cocoa powder: This is of course what gives your ice cream that chocolatey flavor! I like to use Cadbury’s Bournville, but any brand will be fine. I do recommend choosing the highest quality that you can find.
Powdered sugar: Sometimes also known as confectioners sugar, or icing sugar.
Vanilla extract: This is another staple for ice cream recipes, and again, I recommend using the highest quality you can find.
Important Tips & Tricks for Making The Best Ninja Creami Chocolate Ice Cream

- It’s really important to ensure all the ingredients are thoroughly combined – particularly the cocoa powder – to avoid a grainy texture. A handheld frother is the best tool to help you to achieve this!
- Use the ‘Ice Cream’ setting on the Ninja Creami for this recipe – it’s the best option for heavy cream based ice creams
- Don’t be tempted to spin your ice cream before it’s been in the freezer for a full 24 hours! I know this is an exercise in patience sometimes, but it’s essential for creating the best results
- Leave your tub out of the freezer for 10-15 minutes before spinning
- If your ice cream seems too icy after the first spin, you can add a splash of milk and spin again. I’ve never experienced this problem with this recipe, but it’s a good trick to have up your sleeve as you try different flavors and combinations in your machine and learn to troubleshoot any problems you might experience
