These easy, no-bake apple donut slices are the perfect healthy after-school snack or dessert idea for kids! Made with just a few ingredients including fresh apples, peanut butter, and your favorite toppings like chopped fruit and a drizzle of chocolate, they’re simple to prepare yet look so fun and impressive.

  • They’re a fun, easy, relatively mess-free kitchen project to try with kids! Little ones can get involved with spreading the peanut butter and arranging the toppings, and older teens, where appropriate, can practice their slicing skills
  • They’re healthy. After all, it’s apple and peanut butter that we’ll be using here. You can keep things super light by using more fruit as a topping, or add a bit of a treat by using candy and chocolate
  • You only need a handful of ingredients, and you can customize your donut slices based on whatever toppings you might have to hand. My personal favorite combination is strawberry pieces and a white chocolate drizzle!

  • Apples (either green or red are fine) 
  • Peanut butter
  • Suggested toppings: roasted coconut, blueberries, strawberries, sprinkles, white chocolate, and dark chocolate.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Wash the apples.

2. Slice the apple into ½ inch slices, discarding the top and bottom slice. 

3. Remove the center of the apples with a small biscuit/cookie cutter or use a melon baller.

4. Spread the peanut butter on each apple.

5. Sprinkle your favourite toppings over the apples and drizzle with chocolate if desired!

Notes & Extra Tips

  • These are best served immediately, when they’re fresh and crunchy. 
  • You can pre-slice the apples in advance. Use lemon juice on the surface of the apples to prevent browning. Before decorating, pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • Use a small round cookie cutter, melon baller or paring knife to core the apples and create a “donut” shape.
  • Add toppings just before serving to prevent the apples from getting soggy.
  • If you’re making donut apples for a party or gathering, consider setting up a DIY toppings bar so that guests can create their own custom donuts!
