What You’ll Need

Looking for the printable recipe card? It’s at the bottom of this post!

  • Bananas – The naturally sweet base that turns soft and creamy once frozen. They give the bark that banana-peanut-butter-cup kind of vibe.
  • Dark chocolate chips – Since the chocolate flavor really stands out here, using a good-quality brand makes a big difference. Dark chocolate balances the sweetness of the bananas perfectly.
  • Creamy peanut butter – Adds richness, protein, and that classic peanut butter + banana combo everybody already knows works.
  • Coarse sea salt – Just a little sprinkle on top makes the chocolate flavor pop and keeps the bark from tasting overly sweet.

How To Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bark

  • Line a baking sheet or tray with parchment paper.
  • Slice the bananas into rounds, then arrange them close together on the parchment paper to form one large rectangle-ish layer. It doesn’t need to look perfect!

  • Add the peanut butter to a microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup and microwave until smooth and pourable, stirring halfway through. Drizzle it over the bananas, then gently spread it into an even layer.

melted peanut butter

  • Pop the tray into the freezer for about 30 minutes so everything firms up a bit.
  • Meanwhile, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth and glossy.
  • Remove the tray from the freezer and pour the melted chocolate over the peanut butter layer. Use a spatula to spread it out evenly, then sprinkle with flaky sea salt if you’d like.

Recipe Notes

  • Keep the bark stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze it for longer storage. It’s especially good straight from the freezer for a cold, candy-bar-style snack.
  • Try not to leave it sitting out at room temperature too long since the bananas soften pretty quickly once thawed.
  • The sea salt adds a really good sweet-and-salty balance, but you can absolutely switch things up with chopped peanuts, sprinkles, crushed pretzels, coconut, or dried fruit.
  • Dark chocolate gives this more of a rich peanut-butter-cup flavor, but milk chocolate or white chocolate work too if that’s more your thing.
  • For cleaner pieces, let the bark sit at room temperature for a minute or two before breaking it apart.
